SECRETARY'S REPORT: AGM 2009
The Bulwark, Albion & Centaur Association held its 30th AGM & Reunion at Sand Bay Holiday Village near Weston-super-Mare. Around 150 members & guests were booked for the three night extravaganza & judging by the feedback, everyone enjoyed a sun-baked weekend.
At the AGM, two members were presented with certificates by the President, Vice-Admiral Sir Patrick Symons KBE. Henley Howard & Roy Walton joined the association on its inauguration back in1979. Lt Ian Lightfoot represented the current HMS Albion.
The evening raffle raised £300 for “Help the Heroes”.
Guest speaker at the Gala Dinner was Commodore Jerry Stanford, the first Captain of the current HMS Bulwark. The top table included Sir Patrick, Colonel Mick Reece RM & Captain Jimmy James RN. Lt Dave White SCC, the CO of TS Centaur also attended.
On the Sunday 86 personnel departed in two coaches for a journey through the Cheddar Gorge then on to Clarks Village, Street. The British Legion in Street became a welcome watering hole. The return journey included a visit to a cider farm
Thus a fabulous weekend enjoyed by all. The weather was perfection, good entertainment, good food & best of all, good company.
The secretary, Denis Askham, who organised the event said, “Our association is bucking the trend & goes from strength to strength. We have a pro-active committee
who look to the future”.
Future events include a Trafalgar Dinner, RNA & Remembrance Day Marches & a possible sea trip onboard HMS Albion.
Next AGM is in Pompey but the secretary is already planning a 2011 venue.

SECRETARY'S REPORT: AGM 2008
Both our annual events were held at HMS Nelson. Members attended our AGM where the association standard was marched
in prior to the proceedings. John Truscott, outgoing Secretary, was presented with the association shield by our
President, Vice-Admiral Sir Patrick Symons & given a rousing farewell. Vice-Presidents Captain James RN & Colonel
Mick Reece RM were also in attendance. Lt Cdr M Pearce represented the serving HMS Albion & spoke of the numerous
demands of the modern RN. Interaction amongst the members was very pro-active & the committee are very optimistic
about the association’s future. Jim Ure became a committee member.
The social evening was well attended. Dancing to“Prelude”.Most of the raffle prizes were evenly divided between four
members, (well it seemed that way), & the South Yorkshire lads & lasses, led by the Chuckle Brothers, gave us a
rendition of naughty sailor’s songs late into the evening. Food seemed a little scarce until reinforcements came along.
Congratulations to Alan & Elsie who are getting married in a few days.
Here’s to the next banyan in Weston-super Mare.
Denis Askham.

CONVENOR'S REPORT: HARTLEPOOL VENUE PROVES A WINNER
Almost 100 members & guests attended our combined annual events, the first time held outwith Pompey, with invited guests
Mayor Stuart Drummond & Mr Bryn Hughes of HMS Trincomalee Trust.
Vice-Admiral Sir Patrick & Lady Elizabeth arrived and he was piped onboard the ship by our South Yorks. Rep. Neil
Pearson. Our AGM then commenced at 1200 and concluded at 1400 hours
Members & guests arrived from 1930 hours for the Social at the Hillcarter Hotel. Sir Patrick greeted the Mayor, Stuart
Drummond & his wife Rebecca & Bryn Hughes, HMS Trincomalee Trust, & his wife Jean. With everyone assembled, the
association standard was marched in by Denis Askham & John Bagley.
After the meal Sir Patrick thanked one & all & presented the Mayor & Bryn Hughes with engraved tankards on behalf of
the association and in turn received a shield of Hartlepool’s Crest from the Mayor. The raffle raised £200 for the Association and SSAFA.
Mike Craddy & his crew of the RNLI, Hartlepool were very accommodating & 16 of us had the tour & a trip round the
harbour before the boat’s throttle was opened fully up & down the shipping lane we soared. The donation tin at the lifeboat station was well rewarded.

ever popular 'Ritz' Duo who somehow or other managed to get us old lags up dancing.
Since most "non - Pompey" members stay at the Home Club it proved an ideal venue. The quality of the meal
was oustanding and the jocular service of the Home Club staff was much appreciated by all.

AGM Social 2004
The AGM Social was very much an equal success with over 70 members and guests attending at the WO’s and Sr Rates Mess, HMS Nelson. We were entertained again by Shep and Ritz, who as always gave of their best. We were joined by Capt Peter Hudson, Captain of HMS Albion, who gave a short speech to the members. Great to see you all.
Many thanks to all on the committee, Sir Patrick, Captain Peter Hudson, Lt Cdr Duncan Fogg (HMS Bulwark and recently proud father to a baby girl), Lt Aidan Cowan (HMS Albion) and of course to all of you who helped to make it a success.

SECRETARIES COMMENTS :
" A good time was had by all, thoroughly enjoying Shep Wolley's
fine performance. Thanks also to 'Ritz' who enabled us to dance
the night away and as always the Home Club was an ideal venue.
Sorry to those who have been disappointed, as they were unable
to get tickets, this was due to high demand. The venue for the
2004 AGM social will allow more members and guests to attend as
we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the commissioning of HMS
Bulwark & Albion and also the 25th Anniversary of the
inauguration of the association.

SECRETARIES COMMENTS :
An excellent AGM was had by all, approximately 32 members and
their guests attended the lunchtime venue. The Committee Members
made the usual reports and much discussion took place
particularly as regards the Bulwark Bell. The Golden Wheel
Spanner was presented to the new Chairman, Mike Noonan, as his
badge of office. Membership is now well over 600 which is most
encouraging. Sir Patrick Symons, our President, made an
inspiring closing address.
The Social event at the same venue had a
similar attendance and was enjoyed by all. Danny Siggers in
particular (celebrating his award of honorary membership)
performed a star turn with the comedian. A most enjoyable
evening.

An excellent AGM was had by all, approximately 35 members and

The Association looks forward to increasing the membership to
over 500 members with lots of advertising to support this goal.
The Social event at the Tiff's Club in
Southsea was well attended and enjoyed by all. The annual raffle
was a success raising some much needed capital for the
Association. An excellent meeting.
